Powerful Rain FlamesThe “Dying Will Flames” are physically manifested spiritual flames that represent ones fighting spirit and life spirit. They are prefixed with the word “dying” because they, in most cases, only appear when one is shot with a “dying will bullet” which releases that life’s energy with the will and regrets they would have prior to dying from the shot. The flame is used in Katekyo Hitman Reborn! as a method of fighting. The flames are represented by various colors to match the elements that surround the “sky” the main element that encompasses all the others and only appears rarely.
Basil’s element is blue which signifies it as being a rain flame. The rain flame is known for its calming effects. Basil’s flame is strong and can control his flame using techniques which he was harshly trained in since childhood. Basil replaces the dying will bullets that Tsuna uses with “dying will pills” that Basil’s master gave him. While they hold less power than the bullets they give Basil enough strength to spar at a level on par with Tsuna who has much more raw power but less training.
Basil releases his flame at a slow rate using more power when he needs to hit with more strength or to defend himself and less power while fighting in most cases. Despite that fact that overall Basil’s strength quickly pales in comparison to that of a trained Tsuna and his guardians he still has an aptitude with the flame that is rarely seen and he is the only one aside from Tsuna whose flame appears on their head when they fight. Before Basil appeared no one other than Tsuna had ever used the flames to fight or had them strengthening their weapon, something which became extremely common in the Ten Years Later Arc.
