Yamamoto is thoroughly beaten during his first fight against Squalo. Reborn even tells him that he would just get in the way of future battles. This encourages Yamamoto to learn kendo from his father. He didn't realized how well his father knew kendo... as it turns out his father is a master swordsman who uses his sword to kill. His father's technique is the Shigure Souen Style. Yamamoto's only chance is to master it in about a week's time. The style can only be shown once to a student and if the student is worthy he will be able to memorize and master it after one try. After completing his training Takeshi's father gives him a shinai (a training sword) that can transform into a katana only when he uses the Shigure Souen Style. It's full name is Shigure Kintoki. Also the style is unique in that every generation of master creates his own technique to add to the style in addition to the techniques created by the previous masters. As such there are at least two different modifications of the style but in theory there could be hundreds of variations overall. Yamamoto uses this element as a surprise to defeat Squalo. He has also created one official new form as well as other minor ones.
1. (Shigure) - Offensive. The Basic Form in Itself. Yamamoto charges forward while attacking.
2. Surging Rain (Sakamaku Ame) - Defensive. Used in the fight against Squalo. Yamamoto lifts waves of water around him then ducks, putting his sword protectively in front.
3. Last Minute Rain (Yarazu no Ame) - Offensive. Used by Yamamoto to save Chrome in the Sky fight. Yamamoto drops the katana kicking it with his foot to send it flying in a stab.
4. This technique is unknown, assumed to be defensive.
5. Early Summer Rain (Samidare) - Offensive. Shown in the fight against Squalo. Yamamoto slashes diagonally but in midway he drops the sword, switching hands, before finishing the attack. Throws off an opponent's timing.
6. This technique is unknown, assumed to be defensive.
7. Spraying Rain (Shibuki Ame) - Defensive. Used in the Rain fight. Yamamoto holds the sword backwards and spins to create a hurricane type of shield.
8. Pouring Rain (Shinotsuku Ame) - Offensive. Created by Yamamoto's father when saving a friend. Uses the blade of the sword to cut the area surrounding the bearer.
9. Duplicate Rain (Utsushi Ame) - Offensive. Created by Yamamoto prior to his fight with Squalo, he holds his sword like a bat and is able to confuse his opponents with a reflection of himself in the water before moving in for a final blow.
10. Scontro di Rodine (Clash of the Swallow) - Offensive. Created by Yamamoto in the Future Arc while training with Reborn. Seems to be a tidal wave of water that surrounds him while he charges, led by the swallow from his box. (Unofficial).
11. Beccata de Rodine (Swallow's Beak) - Offensive. Created by Yamamoto in the Future Arc while training with Reborn. Yamamoto thrusts his sword repeatedly like a bird's beak when rapidly attacking it's prey. (Unofficial).
